A Brush with the C-Monster

Well, after 2.5 years it finally got me!

Since that fateful March of 2020, we have been so careful! I finally let my guard down and took Worthy to his first in-person baby music class at the beginning of June… and didn’t wear a mask. That was probably my first mistake. In my mind, I felt like we were safe: 10 very young kids in the class (with a parent, that makes 20), the teacher, and instruments! Because I have an infant, I was just assuming everyone else would respect others with children and not bring them when they’re sick. Moral of the story is: never assume anything! Two days after the class, I got an email that the teacher was sick and then I started to feel symptoms.

Dun-Dun-Dunnnnn!

Luckily, it wasn’t too bad. I’ll tell you my story of the progression, what I did to help myself, and how I moved through it quickly! Full disclosure: I know this is not everyone’s experience with this particular virus. There are some out there that have had a tough time with it and I fully recognize that. What is so wild about this virus specifically is that it seems everyone has a unique experience. Some have respiratory symptoms, some have digestive symptoms, some have no symptoms! It’s wild.

For me, I started with a scratchy throat. I thought it was nothing, so I took a few doses of Cold Quell and called it good. Little did I know the moving train wasn’t stopping, so I woke up on day 2 and 3 with the typical “flu-like symptoms” of a sore throat, headache, chills and fever, and fatigue. At that point, I hit the ground running with a more potent custom herbal formula (and a heavy dosage), “gua sha” or scraping of the back of the neck to help with the sore throat, and I needled myself. As the days progressed, I would alter my formula based on what symptoms were changing over time. That seemed to help the most.

By day 3 all symptoms were gone and I was only a little tired. I was very proactive in taking extra vitamin D, C, B complex and zinc the whole time I was sick, but on day 3 I invested in a mobile IV infusion of extra vitamins and minerals to help push me over the last hump. It was expensive, but totally worth it. A certified nurse came to our house and hooked me up to an IV and I sat while I took on a whole bag of fluid (to help with hydration) mixed with all of the above vitamins and minerals, plus glutathione.

Day 4 and 5 of quarantine I was back to 100%, but just wanted to stay home to give myself the full CDC-recommended quarantine time to sleep and rest.

And yes, both Worthy and my husband got it too, but they were even more mild symptomatically than me. Worthy had a high fever for one day and that was it! I dosed him with my pediatric heavy-hitting herbs just to be sure and he was back to 100% the next day. Kids are so resilient!

Overall, I benefited immensely from Chinese herbs and the other treatments I had on hand. Granted, I know you can’t needle yourself at home, but there are other tricks and things to do to help you if you find yourself in this situation… if it's the beast or not! This is your reminder that if you, or anyone in your family, gets sick, please call us!! That is why we have the virtual visit: to go over symptoms and make sure we help you get back on your feet faster.
